ITINERARY

Experience the Mount Sinai Sunrise Tour

Overview: Commence your journey at 23:00 in the evening, embarking on a 2-hour drive to the monastery and the mountain. At 01:00, you’ll begin the ascent of the mountain led by our guide. As you wait for the sunrise, you can bask in the beauty of the starry night sky. The climb to the summit takes around 2.5 hours each way. After the sun graces the horizon with its early morning light, you’ll witness a stunning sunrise over the monastery. Your descent will lead you to the renowned St. Catherine Monastery, one of the world’s most celebrated monastic institutions and among the oldest in Christian history.

St. Catherine Monastery: Located in the heart of the Sinai Peninsula at an elevation of 1570 meters, this is the site where, according to tradition, Moses saw the bush engulfed in flames yet remaining unconsumed. The monastery, an Orthodox institution, holds the prestigious title of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its origins date back to the 6th century during the reign of Emperor Justinian. The construction of the protective enclosure wall that surrounds the monastery commenced during the same period. However, the name “Saint Catherine” was bestowed upon it in the early 11th century in honor of Saint Catherine, an early Christian martyr of Alexandria. The monastery boasts numerous remarkable monuments, including the Burning Bush, which Moses is said to have encountered, and an extraordinary Icons Gallery.

Return to Dahab: Following your exploration of the monastery, we will transport you back to your hotel in Dahab.
